"God names the stars so that the right one would come when He called.
Actually, I think He named them because personal identity and uniqueness of character/personality/etc. is important to Him. Giving names acknowledges a separateness and a uniqueness of being.""
Perhaps it's a demonstration of His authority over them. He didn't just create them, but He alone has the right to govern every aspect of their existence, including what they should be called.

If you read Isaiah 40:26, you'll see that it might have something to do with the fact that "not one of them is missing"....
